Just in time for colder days, the DMV has two new indoor play places to enjoy with the littlest adventurers. Sarah and Noria founded The Wonder with a mission to create a space where families could reconnect to the joys of childhood. They wanted to experience more magic and less mayhem. They wanted to create a space where they could connect with other parents.
But then COVID happened and everything harder and more confusing. Sarah reconnected with her old friend Maria, another full-time working mom and founder of the Nook in DC. The realized they shared values, they were both moms on a mission that had been hijacked by a pandemic and they decided to join forces and The Wonder came to the DMV with locations in Chevy Chase, MD and Arlington, VA.

The Wonder is a place where kids play to learn and parents learn to play. It is a place where moms dream up some seriously super cool classes, too. We were excited to check out The Wonder for ourselves so we took them up on her offer to see the Arlington location.

The play space is divided into several areas with low dividers. This layout is perfect for creating play spaces with different components without obstructing parent’s view of their kids. The theme at The Wonder changes with the seasons offering enough time to enjoy the decorations and play opportunities without getting bored with the same offerings all year long.
There is a large twisting tunnel that crosses the space called the Helix. Our kids really loved climbing, scooting and sliding through it. Another huge hit were the small moped inspired scooters. They loved scooting to and from the Taco & Ice Cream stand to make and deliver food.

The Creation Station offers plenty of space for creating all the art the open-ended play opportunities can generate. We love how there really is something for every child: music, books, art, gross motor, fine motor, building, cars and imaginative play.

We stayed for 2 hours, but our we easily could have stayed for 2 more. In addition to all the little nooks of summer inspired play there was a re-invented ball pit outfitted with flamingo floats and beach balls.
Open play passes are not the only way to experience the fun at The Wonder. The Wonder is launching classes this fall (you can see a full list here) geared towards aged 0-5+. If you are looking for a birthday party for your little one, check out the options at The Wonder. Birthdays at The Wonder take the work out of your special day.

Please note: All Wonder guests must wear masks AND show proof of vaccination to enter their spaces.
