Let’s be honest, vacations are rarely a vacation for parents. Dragging bags to and from, fighting traffic, or standing in long lines can all easily make a vacation stressful. Vacations are more fun at Massanutten Resort with all of the family-friendly conveniences.
The resort is large enough that you need a vehicle, but each drive is very short from one fun adventure to another. We experienced the family-friendly atmosphere in the friendly and helpful staff we encountered who made our stay more enjoyable and relaxing.
Massanutten is an easy 2.5 hour drive from DC. It is perfect for families who want to get away from the city, but also accessible to those with younger kids who may not be ready for longer road trips.

Our summer getaway was packed with adventure. You can read more about our adventures at this family-friendly resort here.
3. Four Seasons of Fun
The mountains aren’t only for snow sports at Massanutten Resort. Any time is the perfect time for a getaway to Massanutten Resort. The warmer weather brings zip lining, golf, rock climbing, river adventures, rope courses, hiking, biking and more.
We were blown away by the selection of activities available in summer. Of course, you can enjoy all of your favorite winter sports on and around the snow-covered slopes during the colder months, but snow sports aren’t the only thing happening when it’s cold.
The Massanutten WaterPark can be enjoyed year-round, along with the escape rooms, nature center, spa, and more.
4. Accommodations for Everyone
Pulling up and seeing the beautiful house that we would call home during our vacation was a highlight for our kids. They loved exploring all the different features in and around our townhouse.
We stayed at the Regal Vistas, a gated community that features brand new, modern townhomes surrounded by some gorgeous mountain views.
After a long day of adventuring (and getting the kids to bed), we really loved relaxing on our deck looking out over the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The Regal Vistas have an open concept, featuring spacious rooms with lots of natural light and luxurious bathrooms. Our kids all loved soaking in the huge tub.
We appreciated that the updated kitchen was fully stocked with everything for the week: dishes, silverware, platters, cooking and baking utensils, wine glasses – all the comforts of home were there.
The Regal Vistas are great for more than one family with adjoining units. Each home also had a garage, washer and dryer. We also had access to an outdoor pool, picnic area, and gym.
While we would highly recommend the Regal Vistas for families, there are many other lodging options available at this family-friendly resort and you can check them out here.
5. Enjoy the Great Outdoors
We are outdoor enthusiasts and loved spending time in the mountains with our family. The Shenandoah Valley offers a range of adventures for thrill seekers and nature lovers alike.
In addition to all our fun adventures, our kids loved spotting wildlife along the roads, from our decks, on the chairlift up to Massanutten Peak and all around the family-friendly resort.
The Nature Center was a great resource for our little nature lovers to learn more about the local environment. Our 3 year old even saw a fox one night after a show.
We spent very little time indoors (awake) while we were at Massanutten.
