The Hylton Performing Arts Center believes that children should experience the arts early and often. To support that mission they offer performances designed for children, offer half-price Hylton Presents tickets for kids, and designate performances most suitable for all ages as family friendly.
There is something for everyone at Hylton Center, which presents diverse programming through series such as Hylton Presents, Hylton Family Series, the lunchtime Matinee Idylls Series, American Roots Series, and Hylton on the Hill. SUGAR SKULL! A Día de los Muertos Musical Adventure

Vita Flores thinks her family is loco to be planning a party for the dead. But things change suddenly when her abuelita’s candy skeleton jumps to life, launching her into a magical world! A host of spirited characters including ancient ancestors, a sorrowful sorceress, and even the famous Catrina Calavera impart the true meaning of Día de los Muertos through song, stories, and dance.

This exuberant musical celebrates family and tradition, featuring the gifted musicians and dancers of Mexico Beyond Mariachi. SUGAR SKULL! is a perfect family outing whether you’re new to the Day of the Dead or have celebrated the holiday with your loved ones for years. (Recommended for ages 4 and up)
Tickets are $15. The run time is 85 minutes with no intermission.
Llama Llama Live

Bedtime has never been so exciting in this clever, imaginative, and heartwarming musical! Based on the beloved children’s book series by Anna Dewdney and Netflix TV series, Llama Llama Live, presented by the Bay Area Children’s Theatre, will have the whole family in stitches.

Baby Llama hilariously kicks off bedtime with the help of his toys Fluffy, Dinosaur, and Robot. Mama Llama joins in the disco-rama as a calming presence, encouraging her baby to settle down for sleep. But this little llama wants to party! Llama Llama Live is from the creator of Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site the Musical. Founded in 2004, the Bay Area Children’s Theatre works to enrich children’s lives, inspire their imagination, and introduce them to lifelong enjoyment of theatre. (Recommended for ages 3 and up)
Tickets are $15. The 4 p.m. performance of Llama Llama Live will be sensory-friendly. These performances are designed to create a welcoming and comfortable arts experience for people with autism, sensory sensitivities, or other social, learning or cognitive disabilities.
Disney’s Winnie The Pooh
Unfortunately this show has been canceled.
This season, a beloved adventure is coming to the Hylton Center! Disney’s iconic Winnie the Pooh, Christopher Robin and their best friends Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga, Roo, Rabbit, and Owl (oh… and don’t forget Tigger, too!) have come to life in a beautifully crafted musical stage adaptation. Featuring the Sherman Brothers’ classic Grammy Award-winning music with further songs by A.A. Milne, this beautiful, fresh stage adaptation is told with stunning life-sized puppetry through the eyes of the characters we all know and love in a new story from the Hundred Acre Wood.

The production is by renowned family entertainment creator Jonathan Rockefeller—the mastermind behind recent Hylton Family Series presentations of The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show and Paddington Gets in a Jam—and is made by Rockefeller Productions alongside Disney Theatrical Productions. Following a record-breaking New York premiere in 2021, the Hundred Acre Wood is heading across the United States straight to the Hylton Center’s Merchant Hall in 2023! (Recommended for ages 3 and up)
Tickets are $35. The run time is 60 minutes with no intermission.
The Hylton Performing Arts Center is located on George Mason University’s Science and Technology Campus in Manassas. Merchant Hall is an elegantly styled opera house with a 100-foot stage and orchestra pit. Its clever design provides every audience member an intimate experience and the perfect setting.
